The Bird lace story

Early on we discussed how cool it would be to create a unique Closely lace, something more interesting than the standard flowers you see everywhere.

We aim for a sense of freedom in everything we do. Birds flying would be a nice way to express that. Would that be technically possible? The experts we spoke to were not encouraging. "Difficult", they said.

We like difficult. One week later we dropped into a lunch with one of our favourite artists, Swedish illustrator Jennie Ekström.  Over a salad we kindly asked her if she wanted to be immortalized in lace. ”We want beautiful, free, birds in your usual poetic style”, we said. (Jennie's poetic style has a healthy dose of rock’n roll). ”I don’t know”, she said, but one hour later we had made a rough plan for the project together.

"That was the start of a long and winding journey, to say the least. Transforming a piece of art into a sustainable, stretchy and super soft lace was complex."

The experts were right about that. But we had an incredible team working with us and some pretty amazing machines too. So finally the everything was in place. Every little detail on the leafs. The perfect beak. The recycled yarn.

In other words - The Bird Lace Project. Sublime bras and briefs ready to fly straight into your wardrobe.
